Sir,
I have the honour to transmit for your
information the enclosed copy of a letter from the Director
nclosure 4th July 1900, With/one/sub-or closure.,
Public Works, asking that a vote may be taken and authori-
granted for the erection of a new pier at Sam-shui-po, in
the New Territory, to replace the existing pier which is in a
very bad state of repair and unfit for use.
Sam-shui-po is on the West side of the Kowloon Pe-
ninsula just beyond what was the boundary of the old Colony.
There is now an important subsidiary Harbour office at the
place.

I have therefore the honour to request
your authority to have this work carried out in a manner to
be approved by the Director of Public Works and at a cost
which is not likely to exceed $ 8,000. As the work is urgent
I request the favour of a reply by telegraph, in order that
the Director of Public Works may call for tenders as soon as
possible.
